Creepy clipart photos: Crypt Fronts #1

creepy scary cemetery photos
from New Orleans

Actual sheet is 8.5" x 11" and shows a set of nine JPG images

On this sheet: 9 original cemetery photos showing crypt fronts. All of these photos were taken at the Metairie cemeteries near downtown New Orleans.

I selected these images because they'd be ideal for use with cut-outs, pockets, and pop-ups in paper arts. Any one of them would be a great cover graphic for an altered book or an artist's journal. Reduced, they offer amazing opportunities for fold-out or dimensional ATCs.

I already trimmed the image at the upper left. Here are thumbnails to show how you can alter its color. (I avoided making the red version too lurid, but if you want gruesome... well, saturating it with red will definitely make an impression.)

You can make similar (or more ornate) color adjustments with any of these photos.

Note: I obscured the name on the crypt that's been used recently. The other photos are exactly as I took them during a January 2005 trip to New Orleans.** (The general rule for working with gravestone images is to blur or alter information less than 100 years old.)

These images are scary enough for Halloween party invitations and decor, and eerie enough for gothic art.

You can use these creepy images individually, cropping them with any graphics program. Or, you can print the entire sheet and cut it up for use in your art.

These are our own royalty-free photos, sold nowhere else.* You can use these images over and over again in your original art, even art that you sell.

Price: $1.99 for the 150 dpi JPG
(or $3.00 for the 300 dpi JPG*)

You are buying a downloadable JPG image that includes all of nine the photos shown on the sheet at the top of this page, and will print on an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper.

You can download these photos and start using them right now... even at 3 in the morning!

*150 dpi or 300 dpi?

"DPI" means "dots per inch" in old-fashioned printing. Today, many people use "dpi" to mean "pixels per inch," as well.

For desktop printing, you can usually use images down to 100 pixels/inch (or dpi) without much loss of quality. Below 90 dpi, you run the risk of the image looking "pixelated." In professional printing, 300 dpi is considered very good.

So, you can enlarge the images on the 150 dpi sheet... but they're best at the size on the sheet or slightly larger.

By contrast, you can enlarge the images on the 300 dpi sheet as much as three times larger, and maybe even bigger.

If you're planning to use the images on journal covers or other larger art, get the 300 dpi sheet. If you're going to use the images "as is" or on ATCs, the 150 dpi sheet is fine.
